Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has moved to reassure Kenyans living in Tanzania after reports of unrest and harassment targeting some nationals following the disputed election.

In a statement shared on X, Mudavadi revealed he had spoken with Tanzania’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, to discuss the safety of Kenyans affected by the post-election chaos.

He said Kenya had already raised official concerns with Tanzanian authorities over incidents where some citizens’ rights were violated.

“We discussed recent reports involving incidents where the rights of certain Kenyan nationals were infringed. For these specific matters, formal reports have been submitted to the Tanzanian authorities for appropriate action,” Mudavadi said.

The Prime CS assured that Nairobi is closely monitoring the situation through its High Commission in Dar es Salaam and will continue to offer full consular assistance to all affected citizens.

He emphasized that both governments had agreed to resolve any emerging issues through established diplomatic and consular channels in line with East African Community protocols.

Mudavadi also praised the contribution of Kenyans living in Tanzania, describing them as a key part of the country’s economy through business, trade, and professional services.

He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to safeguarding their welfare and maintaining the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

The government’s statement comes as calm slowly returns to parts of Tanzania after violent demonstrations rocked several cities last week.

Kenyans in the country have been advised to stay alert and report any threats to the nearest consular office.
