Senate Staff Urged to Embrace Teamwork and Resilience Ahead of Fifth Session

Ahead of the Senate’s Fifth Session, staff were encouraged to prioritise resilience, adaptability, and teamwork as the institution continues serving Kenyans.

A one-day retreat held on Friday, February 6, prepared officers for the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming legislative session, set to resume on Tuesday, February 10.

Clerk of the Senate and Secretary to the Parliamentary Service Commission, Jeremiah Nyegenye, urged staff to fully commit to their roles and remain resilient amid evolving demands.

“I encourage you to remain resilient, energised, and fully adaptable in your service to the people of Kenya,” he said, highlighting the importance of personal and professional dedication in achieving institutional goals.

Nyegenye acknowledged staff for their contributions during the Fourth Session, citing major events such as the Legislative Summit, the Devolution Conference in Homa Bay, and the Senate Mashinani in Busia County.

Staff also managed sensitive impeachment proceedings involving governors of Kericho and Nyamira Counties with professionalism and diligence.

The retreat offered an opportunity for reflection, including a moment of silence for colleagues who passed away and recognition of staff who retired or exited service.

Court of Appeal Judge Johnson Okello, formerly Director of the Legal Services Directorate, expressed gratitude for his time at the Senate and encouraged staff to continue supporting devolution principles.

Nyegenye also called on staff to strengthen community support initiatives, citing philanthropic activities undertaken during the previous session, and highlighted wellness programs such as Senate and Parliamentary sports events as tools for building teamwork and morale.

Deputy Clerks Mohamed Ali and Eunice Gichangi echoed the call for adaptability and collaboration.

“We are back, re-energised and ready for the Fifth Session. Let us give it our best and remain adaptable to what the Session will bring,” said Gichangi.

The retreat concluded with staff expressing readiness to tackle the Fifth Session’s agenda and appreciation to the Parliamentary Service Commission for organising the engagement.
