Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has publicly endorsed Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua as the opposition's preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, challenging other coalition leaders to prove they have the political influence to match him.
Speaking after a church service in Kirinyaga on Sunday, Maina praised Gachagua's ability to mobilize support, safeguard the opposition's interests, and mount a strong challenge against President William Ruto.
According to Maina, Gachagua has already demonstrated that he can deliver votes and unite supporters, unlike other opposition leaders seeking the coalition's presidential ticket.
Although she did not mention anyone by name, her remarks appeared aimed at other opposition figures believed to be eyeing the presidential flagbearer position, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Maina expressed confidence that Gachagua would not only secure the opposition ticket but also win the presidency in 2027, telling supporters that his team was fully prepared for the contest.
Her comments come as competition within the opposition coalition continues to gather momentum, with leaders expected to eventually agree on a single candidate to face President William Ruto in the next General Election.
Gachagua has consistently argued that he is the strongest candidate to lead the opposition, citing his influence in the Mt. Kenya region despite his impeachment from office.
During the same church event, he also revealed that several Mt. Kenya leaders allied with President Ruto had approached him seeking reconciliation.
However, Gachagua insisted that any reconciliation efforts should be conducted openly and transparently during the day, saying he had nothing to hide from the Kenyan public.
Meanwhile, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has maintained his own presidential ambitions, saying recent political changes, including his removal as Senate Deputy Minority Whip, will not deter him from pursuing national leadership or speaking on behalf of Kenyans.
