Nyandarua Senator John Methu is set to lead the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in a series of grassroots political engagements in Laikipia County as the party intensifies its preparations for the 2027 General Election.
Methu will lead the party's “Meet the People Tour” on Sunday, August 30, with activities scheduled across different parts of the county.
The programme will begin with a church service at ACK Ngaruru at 9am before the DCP team moves to Kinamba Town for a political rally at 2:30pm.
The day's activities will end with another rally in Sipili Town at 4pm.
The Laikipia tour comes at a time when Methu is taking on a more prominent role within DCP following the departure of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for a political and diaspora tour of the United States.
Methu, who is the party's Secretary-General designate, has recently taken part in several DCP mobilisation activities and has become one of the party's leading voices as it seeks to expand its support base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Before leaving Kenya, Gachagua had also toured Laikipia, including a major rally in Nanyuki on August 1, where he was accompanied by Methu and other DCP leaders.
The party has been increasing its grassroots activities across the Mt Kenya region as it seeks to strengthen its political network and challenge President William Ruto's administration in the next election.
Methu's latest assignment is expected to test his ability to maintain the momentum generated by Gachagua's recent political tours while the former deputy president remains outside the country.
DCP has also continued attracting new political allies, with Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan recently joining the party.
The Laikipia engagements are therefore expected to be closely watched as DCP continues building its grassroots structures and positioning itself ahead of the 2027 General Election.
