Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has hit back at former governor Alfred Mutua following his recent tour of the county, mocking his return to the “Cobra Squad” persona while defending her administration's development record.
Mutua, who currently serves as Labour Cabinet Secretary, recently toured Machakos Town, visiting Machakos Level 5 Hospital and Machakos People's Park. During the tour, he criticised the condition of some facilities that were developed during his time as governor.
At People's Park, Mutua claimed the facility had deteriorated and said a major public project must be properly maintained after being launched.
He also argued that leadership should be judged by the results and sustainability of projects rather than political statements.
Ndeti responded by highlighting what she described as major achievements by her administration across the county.
The governor pointed to programmes targeting young people, including the Machakos Youth Service, as well as the Maziwa ya Mama initiative and the ECDE School Feeding Programme.
She also cited ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects, saying several major roads were at different stages of tarmacking.
In the health sector, Ndeti said her administration had invested in medical equipment, improved facilities, increased staffing and strengthened diagnostic services.
She further highlighted water and agricultural projects, including more than 100 surface-water harvesting initiatives designed to support irrigation, livestock and household needs.
Ndeti argued that Machakos' development should not be judged only by projects established by previous administrations, saying her government had continued investing in services and infrastructure.
The exchange between the two leaders has renewed political debate over Machakos' development record, with Mutua focusing on the maintenance of existing projects while Ndeti points to new programmes and investments under her administration.
The political contest comes as both leaders remain active in public affairs ahead of the 2027 General Election.
