Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has credited Operation Maliza Uhalifu with helping reduce banditry and restore normal life in areas that have experienced prolonged insecurity.
Murkomen made the remarks while highlighting the government’s security operations and the work of multi-agency teams deployed to areas affected by banditry and other forms of organised crime.
According to Murkomen, the operations have disrupted criminal networks and helped communities in previously affected areas resume their daily activities with greater security.
Operation Maliza Uhalifu brings together different security agencies to tackle banditry, cattle theft and other criminal activities in parts of northern and north-western Kenya. The operation covers counties including Baringo, Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo and Meru.
Murkomen has previously said that the government’s multi-agency approach has contributed to improvements in security in areas that were previously affected by frequent attacks.
The operation has also involved efforts to recover stolen livestock, restore damaged infrastructure and encourage communities to participate in peace and disarmament initiatives.
The latest remarks come as security concerns remain in some parts of the country. A recent attack in Gotu, Isiolo, left five people dead and renewed calls from local leaders for stronger security measures.
Murkomen has maintained that the government will continue strengthening security operations while working with local communities to address the causes of insecurity.
The government’s strategy combines security operations with longer-term measures aimed at improving stability and supporting communities in areas affected by banditry.
