The Ministry of Education has announced the release timelines for the 2025 national examinations, confirming that the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results will be out in December, while KCSE results will be released in January 2026.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 29, Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba outlined the schedule, noting that the ministry and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) were working around the clock to ensure the smooth administration of all examinations despite ongoing challenges.

“KJSEA and KPSEA results will be released in December this year, while KCSE results will come out in January 2026,” Ogamba stated.

Exam Season and Weather Challenges

Nationwide, Grade 6 learners concluded their KPSEA exams between October 27 and October 29, while Grade 9 candidates are currently sitting for the KJSEA examinations, which are scheduled to end on November 3, 2025.

Ogamba acknowledged that the ongoing heavy rains had affected examination logistics in some regions, with reports of exam officers encountering difficulties accessing certain centers due to impassable roads and damaged bridges.

To mitigate the disruptions, the CS revealed that the government had deployed standby helicopters and established a central command center at KNEC headquarters to respond to emergencies in real-time.

“We have choppers on standby at the command center. Whenever officers face logistical challenges, they can alert the center, and helicopters will be dispatched to ensure timely delivery of exam materials,” Ogamba explained.

Introducing Drone Technology

The Education CS further disclosed that the ministry was in the process of developing a policy framework to adopt drone technology for delivering examination materials in hard-to-reach areas in the future.

“We are working on a policy to explore the use of drone technology for exam deliveries, especially in areas affected by floods and poor infrastructure. This will help minimize delays and safeguard the integrity of our national exams,” Ogamba added.

KCSE Examinations Ongoing

Meanwhile, KCSE candidates began their oral exams in foreign languages—including German, French, Arabic, and Kenyan Sign Language—on October 21. Practical examinations started on October 29 and are scheduled to continue until October 31, while written papers will conclude on November 21, 2025.

According to KNEC CEO David Njengere, a total of 996,078 students are sitting for the KCSE this year. Additionally, more than 2.4 million learners are participating in the KPSEA and KJSEA assessments, with 1,298,089 in Grade 6 and 1,130,669 in Grade 9.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness, security, and transparency throughout the exam period despite logistical and weather-related challenges.
