Boyd Were has been officially declared the Member of Parliament for Kasipul Constituency following the by-election held on November 27.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the results at Agoro Sare High School in Oyugis, confirming Were, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate, as the winner with 16,819 votes. Independent candidate Philip Nashon Aroko finished second with 8,476 votes.
The by-election was triggered by the passing of the former MP, creating a contest that drew ten candidates across the constituency’s five wards: Central Kasipul, West Kamagak, South Kasipul, West Kasipul, and East Kamagak.
Voting proceeded without major disruptions, and the IEBC said the process adhered to electoral regulations, underscoring the importance of transparent election management in maintaining public confidence.
During the announcement, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga celebrated Were’s success, noting the candidate’s campaign discipline and clarity of message.
“We witnessed the official announcement of the Kasipul Constituency parliamentary by-election results at Agoro Sare High School and celebrated the victory of our ODM Party candidate, Hon Boyd Were. Congratulations on your victory! Your determination and clear messaging have led to this achievement, and you truly deserve it. Now it's time to get to work for the people of Kasipul and all Kenyans,” she said on X.
The Kasipul seat has historically been an ODM stronghold, reflecting the party’s broader influence in the Luo Nyanza region.
Were, who steps into office following his late father’s tenure, faces the challenge of meeting constituent expectations for development and local service delivery.
Were expressed gratitude to voters for their participation and pledged to foster unity in the constituency.
He also commended the IEBC for overseeing a credible process, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration between elected leaders and county administration to address local priorities.
The by-election outcome reinforces ODM’s position in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections and highlights the party’s organizational strength at the grassroots level.
