Former Nominated Senator Gloria OrwobaFormer Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has claimed that the Ksh300 billion flagged as missing by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu may have been used to influence recent by-elections, including the one held in Mbeere North on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
In an interview on Saturday, November 29, Orwoba alleged that the government employed intimidation, violence, and bribery to sway election outcomes in both Mbeere North and Malava constituencies.
She singled out Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, claiming they monitored polling stations because “they already knew they had lost.”
"Three polling stations were allegedly taken over, while goons infiltrated two others," Orwoba said, linking the interference to the narrow 400-vote margin celebrated by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Mbeere North.
She further claimed that over Ksh600 million was reportedly injected into the Mbeere North by-election alone. Orwoba suggests that missing government funds, particularly from bonds, may have been diverted to influence multiple by-elections.
The Auditor General’s report, released on November 25, indicated that Ksh300 billion raised between 2017 and 2023 cannot be accounted for, funds that were accumulated through government bonds over six years.

Orwoba insists that this money has not disappeared but was instead allegedly spent in areas including Malava, Mbeere, and Kisii during by-elections.
"And just so you know it is not a joke, the 300 billion has not vanished – it has been spent in Malava, in Mbeere, and in Kisii," she stated.
Orwoba warned that the tactics observed in Mbeere North could foreshadow similar voter manipulation in the 2027 General Election if left unchecked.
