The widow of a police officer who was shot dead while manning a KCSE examination centre in Turkana County has made a heartfelt appeal to the government for support following the tragic incident.
Speaking on Tuesday, the emotional widow described her late husband as the sole breadwinner, revealing that his sudden death had left the family in deep distress.
“The deceased is my husband, and he was still very young. We have a small baby together. I’m pleading with the government to help me in any way possible because the last time he came home in August, he promised to start a business for me next year,” she said tearfully.
She added that with his passing, those dreams had vanished. “Now that he’s gone, even that plan is gone. I just pray the government can support me — maybe with a job or help me start a small business that can sustain me and our baby,” she added.
Beyond her child, the widow revealed she is now responsible for caring for her elderly mother-in-law, further compounding the family’s struggles.
The officer’s sister-in-law also appealed for assistance, explaining that the deceased had been paying school fees and providing for her children as his own.
The family is urging authorities to fast-track investigations into the killing and ensure the suspects are brought to justice.
According to police reports, the officer was guarding a KCSE exam container at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office when armed bandits ambushed him and his colleague on Monday, November 4.
The attackers fatally shot the officer before escaping with his AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. Responding officers found him dead at the scene, and his body was later taken to a nearby mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Investigators believe the assailants were after the officer’s firearm, as the region continues to battle rising insecurity linked to frequent bandit attacks.
