President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of celebrated gospel musician Betty Bayo, whose songs inspired hope and faith across the country.
The award-winning singer passed away on Monday after a prolonged battle with leukemia, according to family sources.
In his condolence message shared on social media, President Ruto praised Bayo, born Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, for using her music to uplift Kenyans during difficult times.
He said her hit song 11th Hour stood out as a message of divine restoration and perseverance for believers facing hardship.
“For over 15 years, Betty lifted spirits through music that spoke of resilience, renewal, and steadfast faith. Her voice may have fallen silent, but her ministry lives on in every heart she touched," the President said in his tribute.
Bayo’s former partner, Bishop Victor Kanyari, publicly thanked the President for his compassion during the period of mourning.
In a brief Facebook post, Kanyari wrote, “Thank you so much for your support, especially during this tough time. May God bless you.”
His message drew reactions from fans and fellow gospel artists who commended the exchange as a show of unity during loss.
Bayo, who rose to fame with hits such as Sinabii and Ngai Mumbi, was among the most recognizable female gospel voices of her generation.
Her music career, which spanned over a decade, earned her multiple nominations and invitations to major gospel concerts across Kenya.
Her passing has reignited public conversations about the struggles many artists face when battling long-term illnesses.
