A Kileleshwa Ward MCA has formally petitioned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over the eligibility of its National Youth League Leader, citing constitutional age limits.

The MCA demands that Mr. John Antira Ketora vacate the office immediately, arguing that he has exceeded the age threshold for youth leadership.

According to the MCA’s letter addressed to ODM Executive Director, Mr. Ketora, born on 12th August 1984, turned 35 in 2019 and has been ineligible for the position for over six years.

Article 260 of the Constitution defines youth as individuals aged between 18 and 34 years, a threshold mirrored in the ODM Party Constitution for leadership of its youth wing.

The MCA emphasized that the move is intended to uphold the rule of law and safeguard genuine youth representation, rather than to target any individual personally.

“This is about legality, principle, and ensuring that young Kenyans have a voice in our party,” he stated, underscoring the need for compliance with both constitutional and party regulations.

In the letter, the MCA outlined four key demands: immediate declaration of the National Youth League Leader office as vacant, organization of transparent elections within 60 days, publication of a qualified aspirants list within 14 days, and suspension of any privileges currently extended to Mr. Ketora.

He has requested that the party leadership respond with an action plan within seven days.

The call comes amid growing public interest in youth participation in politics, as ODM and other major parties continue to emphasize inclusivity and accountability.
