The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), under the leadership of President Faith Odhiambo, visited Mama Ida Odinga at her Opoda Farm home to pay their respects following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, CGH.

The delegation included representatives from various LSK branches, FIDA Kenya leaders, and practicing lawyers from across the country.

During the visit, Mama Ida shared stories of the Odinga family and reflected on Kenya’s political journey, offering the guests insight into the late leader’s personal and public life.

Odhiambo noted on X that the meeting provided a chance to appreciate the family’s historical role in advancing democracy and human rights in Kenya.

Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013, played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s constitutional and electoral reforms.

His political career spanned several decades, including leadership within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and he was widely regarded for championing human rights and democratic freedoms.

Odhiambo highlighted the challenge left by Odinga’s passing, describing the gap in Kenya’s democratic and civic space.

“We must collectively resolve to live by his ideals, share in his vision, and recommit to his life-long efforts for a free, equal, and prosperous Kenya,” she said in the statement.

The LSK president also emphasized the role of legal professionals in safeguarding the principles Odinga advocated throughout his life.

The condolence visit was part of a broader national mourning period, reflecting the respect accorded to Odinga across political and professional sectors.

Members of the delegation observed Kenya’s history through the lens of the Odinga family, gaining perspective on the struggles and achievements that shaped the country’s democratic institutions.

Odhiambo honored the late leader’s enduring influence on Kenyan society.

“May Baba continue to rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to guide us,” she said, reaffirming the commitment of lawyers and civil society actors to uphold democratic values.

The visit shows how Kenya’s political and professional communities continue to recognize Raila Odinga’s contributions to governance, electoral integrity, and human rights, ensuring that his work remains a reference point for future leaders.
