Andrew Chacha Mwita, a Mombasa-based lawyer, was among 22 individuals arrested in a nationwide counter-terrorism operation led by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).
The arrests, made on Friday, November 14, 2025, targeted terror supporters, financiers, and individuals alleged to have facilitated radicalization, recruitment, and financing of terror activities across Nairobi, Mombasa, Kapseret, Moyale, and Marsabit.
Mwita appeared before Kahawa Law Courts on Monday, November 17, where detectives requested a 20-day custodial order.
The court is expected to issue a ruling on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
Other suspects, including Richard Muriuki Murimi, Said Galgalo Duba, Ali Mohamed, and Dhalha Abdi Mohamed, who were arrested in Nairobi, had their custodial application hearing deferred to Tuesday, November 18.
Anthony Odhiambo Odwuor, detained in Kapseret, will learn his fate on November 25, when a 15-day custodial order sought by detectives will be decided.
In Mombasa, Miriam Ali Abdalla and Aisha Abdullahi face a 20-day custodial order, with a ruling expected on November 26.
On the same day, six individuals arrested in Marsabit – Fatuma Yabalo Guyo, Jilo Arafti Halake, Ajirena Halake Sora, Safia Ture Bidu, Kabale Duba Ali, and Abdisalam Hassan Charfi – will have court decisions on a 30-day custody application.
The remaining seven suspects’ miscellaneous applications are scheduled to continue at Kahawa Court on November 18.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations stated that the operation reflects Kenya’s ongoing commitment to combating terrorism and dismantling networks that facilitate terror activities.
The DCI affirmed it will continue to pursue suspects and leave no stone unturned in its efforts to safeguard national security.
This operation represents one of the largest coordinated anti-terror sweeps in recent months, covering multiple counties and targeting both individuals and alleged financial networks linked to terrorist activities.
