Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate claims of a plan to disrupt the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s campaign activities ahead of the Mbeere North by-election scheduled for November 27.

In a statement posted on X, Kuria alleged that a group of individuals linked to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) intends to infiltrate Gachagua’s upcoming campaign events while posing as members of his Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party.

He claimed the group plans to create disturbances and falsely accuse the former deputy president of owing money to CCK’s candidate, Duncan Mbui.

Kuria dismissed the allegations against Gachagua, saying the former deputy president “does not owe any money” to Mbui and that the supposed debt claims are politically motivated.

He described the alleged plan as an attempt to provoke tension in the constituency, warning that such incidents could set a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former CS also emphasized CCK’s stance against electoral violence, saying the party remains guided by lessons from Kenya’s 2007–2008 post-election crisis.

“We have taken a zero-tolerance position on political violence, and nothing will make us deviate from that,” Kuria stated.

His statement comes at a time when campaigns for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat are intensifying, drawing interest from major political parties including UDA, Jubilee, and CCK.

The IEBC has previously warned political players to maintain peace and comply with the Electoral Code of Conduct during the campaigns.

Mbeere North, located in Embu County, has been a politically competitive area, with recent by-elections in the region often drawing national attention.

The outcome of this race is expected to test party alliances in Mount Kenya East, where UDA and smaller parties such as CCK are vying for influence.
