Starehe MP Amos Mwago has weighed in on the Thursday by-election results, saying Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democratic Change Party (DCP) demonstrated growing political strength after securing three seats in Kariobangi North, Kisa East and Narok Town.
The contests were part of mini-polls held across the country, drawing attention due to shifting alignments within Kenya’s major coalitions.
Mwago said the outcome showed that DCP had managed to translate its visibility into real voter support on the ground.
He noted that the victories signalled rising confidence in Gachagua’s leadership, especially as the party is only months old and still expanding its structures nationally.
In a statement posted on X, Mwago described Gachagua as “a sharp political strategist” who had proved his ability to guide a new party to electoral success.
He added that the results positioned DCP as “a serious player” shaping its space within the wider political landscape.
According to the MP, the wins also reflect a shift in voter attitudes, especially in competitive urban and rural wards where coalition dynamics remain fluid ahead of 2027.
The three by-elections attracted attention because of Nairobi’s political significance, the competitive nature of lower Eastern races, and Narok’s history of coalition-driven voting patterns.
Mwago said the performance gave Gachagua momentum as he seeks to consolidate support in regions where political loyalties have been unpredictable.
“By securing these wins, he positions DCP as a serious player in Kenya’s political landscape,” he wrote, adding that Gachagua had shown capacity to build influence “from scratch.”
The MP concluded his assessment by describing the Deputy President as “a master in politics,” a phrase that sparked debate online due to the ongoing rift within Kenya Kwanza and the Deputy President’s push to strengthen his personal political base.
