ODM has consolidated its political presence with victories in by-elections held on Thursday across Kasipul, Ugunja, and Magarini constituencies, party sources confirmed.
The wins are credited to coordinated efforts by senior leaders and active engagement from the party’s youth wing, according to Kasmuel McCoure, a member of ODM’s youth team.
In Magarini, Coastal leaders H.E. C.S. Hassan Ali Joho and H.E. Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir were instrumental in securing the seat. McCoure praised their strategic planning and inclusion of young party members, who contributed significantly to voter mobilisation.
“They intentionally elevated young voices, demonstrating the strength and impact of our youth wing,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Kasipul and Ugunja constituencies benefited from the leadership of Governor Wanga, ODM’s National Chairperson.
McCoure highlighted her role in mobilising both seasoned party supporters and student networks, including the initiative led by Cde Onuko in Homa Bay.
These campaigns reinforced the party’s influence in regions critical for its national strategy ahead of the general elections.
Despite the overall success, ODM acknowledged setbacks in Nairobi, where the party failed to secure a single ward seat. McCoure described the situation as “complex but not insurmountable,” attributing the outcome to internal coordination challenges rather than voter disengagement.
He emphasised that empowering youth and committed leaders remains essential for sustaining the party’s grassroots strength.
The by-election results reflect a combination of established leadership, strategic regional influence, and active participation of younger party members.
McCoure concluded that the party’s future hinges on recognising effective leadership and empowering emerging talent, while minimising internal conflicts that could undermine electoral performance.
