Nairobi detectives have arrested three suspects linked to a violent robbery ring targeting wine and spirits shops across the city and surrounding areas.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with Kiambu detectives, followed days of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The arrests were made after a tip-off led officers to Ngara, where Edward Muchiri Mureithi, alias Kazee, and Stephen Mwenda Ndung’u, alias Stevoo, were apprehended.

The duo, known for their violent night raids, abandoned a black Toyota Harrier (KDS 791A) during a failed attempt to evade police. The vehicle was seized as key evidence for ongoing investigations.

Following this, detectives moved to Njiru Makongeni and arrested Martin Ndung'u Wangui. A black Toyota Noah (KCY 982C), suspected of transporting stolen liquor, was recovered at the scene, with its interior still carrying the smell of alcohol.

The operation extended to Mugutha, Ruiru, targeting the gang’s alleged mastermind, Peter Muhia Njenga, who remains at large.

Officers, executing a search warrant, recovered break-in tools, several mobile phones, a hoodie matching CCTV footage, and a number plate (KCV 342G) believed to have been used in previous robberies.

Investigators also discovered empty cartons of expensive liquor and a herd of 25 bulls, suspected to be stolen and hidden at Njenga’s second residence in Njiru.

The animals were escorted to Ruai Police Station as authorities work to trace their rightful owners.

Police say efforts to locate Njenga are ongoing, warning that he remains dangerous.

The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in Nairobi’s efforts to curb violent crime targeting liquor retailers.
