Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has clarified comments that were previously misreported, emphasizing the need for a united and robust Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of upcoming elections. She reassured supporters that her remarks do not oppose coalitions with other parties.

Odinga’s statement came after Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino, known as ‘Wuod Chief,’ led a delegation to Kango ka Jaramogi to visit her.

The meeting provided a platform for Odinga to address concerns about her previous comments and explain her position on party unity.

“I am not against forming alliances with other parties. My focus is on ensuring ODM remains strong internally because unity within the party strengthens our position during elections,” Odinga said on X.

She also highlighted past experiences, referencing the 2007 elections, where party cohesion helped secure key positions despite the disputed presidential outcome.

In Kenya’s multiparty system, parties often balance alliances with grassroots organization to maximize electoral performance.

ODM, as one of the country’s major political parties, has historically leveraged strong internal structures to influence legislative and local outcomes.

Owino’s visit was described as a show of solidarity and a reminder of the importance of collaboration among party leaders.

Ruth Odinga used the opportunity to stress that effective political strategy requires preparation and strong organizational foundations.

“You can’t go to war without a weapon, and the stronger the weapon, the better,” she said, highlighting the role of party unity in shaping Kenya’s political landscape.

This clarification may influence ongoing discussions within ODM regarding coalition strategies and preparations for future polls.
