Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has urged Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Samia Suluhu of Tanzania to take firm action against activists who interfere in the internal affairs of their countries.

The appeal comes in the wake of the release of Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who had been detained for over a month.

Speaking at a church service on Sunday, Cherargei warned that some activists were spreading unrest beyond Kenya’s borders.

“Stop exporting your bad manners to other countries. Uganda and Tanzania are sovereign countries,” he said, highlighting concerns over cross-border political activism.

Cherargei expressed gratitude to President Museveni for releasing Njagi and Oyoo, describing the move as a recognition of the principle that citizens should respect national sovereignty.

He further urged East African governments to act decisively against any foreign activists seeking to destabilize their nations.

The comments come amid broader debates on the role of activists in regional politics. Cross-border activism has occasionally created tensions in East Africa, with governments emphasizing the need to protect national stability while balancing civic freedoms.

Njagi and Oyoo, who were freed on Friday night, spoke to the press on Saturday about their detention.

While details of their release were not extensively publicized, their case has drawn attention to the risks faced by activists operating across East African nations.
