Siaya Governor James Orengo attended a World Health Organization (WHO) donation ceremony at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday, where the county received key medical support, including an emergency ambulance, essential equipment, and supplies aimed at strengthening health services.
Orengo shared the development on social media, emphasizing the collaboration between the County Government, the National Government, and stakeholders to enhance Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The donation, according to Orengo, is part of broader efforts to improve emergency and reproductive health services across Siaya County.
“Grateful for the continued collaboration as we work toward stronger health systems and UHC,” he posted, highlighting the county’s commitment to enhancing medical service delivery.
The State House ceremony coincided with criticism from Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who alleged that Orengo was at State House “profusely apologising for unsavoury words over the weekend.”
Cherargei claimed the governor should also address “poor development, poor governance, and corruption allegations” affecting Siaya County.
Cherargei’s comments reflect ongoing political tensions within opposition ranks and echo past disagreements between local leaders over governance and accountability.
Siaya County has previously faced scrutiny over service delivery challenges, with residents and political observers highlighting delays in infrastructure projects and questions around financial management.
Orengo’s post focuses on health sector gains, signaling an area where the county has recorded tangible support.
The WHO donation forms part of the national health strategy to reinforce emergency readiness and access to reproductive health services.
The delivery of an ambulance and medical supplies is expected to improve response times in emergencies and support maternal and child health initiatives.
While Cherargei’s remarks attracted media attention, Orengo’s social media update centers on development achievements rather than political debate.
The county government maintains that collaboration with national authorities is vital for implementing sustainable health programs and ensuring that Siaya residents benefit from national and international support initiatives.
