The Standard has raised questions about Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi’s handling of diplomatic matters, describing him as a “weak” diplomat.

According to the publication, CS Mudavadi has faced mounting criticism over what some perceive as muted responses when Kenyans abroad encounter difficulties.

Recent incidents cited include the abduction of activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who were held in Ugandan detention for 38 days, and the death of a Kenyan teacher in Tanzania during the recent elections.

The report notes that Kenyans living outside the country are increasingly dissatisfied with the ministry’s response to such incidents, with some feeling the government has failed to protect their interests.

Critics argue that rather than firmly protesting or summoning foreign diplomats, the CS appears to prioritize appeasing neighboring governments.

The Standard’s coverage highlights growing concern over the effectiveness of Kenya’s foreign affairs leadership at a time when citizens abroad expect strong advocacy and protection in crises.
