Nation: Teachers Split Over SHA Medical Cover

The Nation reports growing divisions among teachers following the government’s decision to transfer their medical insurance from Minet to the Social Health Authority (SHA).

According to the paper, discontent emerged just hours after teachers’ union officials signed the agreement, with some teachers criticizing the process for lacking public participation.

Primary school heads attending their annual conference in Mombasa reportedly described the shift as hurried and lacking transparency. The publication notes that the issue could spark backlash ahead of upcoming union elections.

Standard: Principals From Hell

The Standard exposes disturbing accounts of high school principals accused of abusing their authority and creating toxic working environments.

The paper reports that some heads have been described as “petty dictators” who subject teachers, parents, and students to intimidation and discrimination.

It further reveals cases of tribalism, favoritism in promotions, and excessive control that have undermined morale in schools.

Several teachers shared their experiences with the publication, recounting instances of harassment and unfair treatment under such leadership.

The report paints a troubling picture of power misuse within Kenya’s education sector.
