Former Deputy President and Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday rejected media reports suggesting he intended to claim all political seats in Nairobi for his party.

Speaking during a public address, Gachagua called on journalists to report objectively and avoid misrepresenting political statements.

“You newspapers don't twist. Saying that Riggy G wants the whole of Nairobi to go to Kikuyus. Just be professional and fair people. You have a responsibility to be truthful, don't twist narratives,” Gachagua said.

He emphasized that the city’s key positions, including Governor, Senator, and Women Representative, were open to candidates from all communities.

Gachagua also addressed the dynamics of party alliances in Nairobi, noting that collaboration between parties would be guided by electoral strength rather than ethnic lines.

“When Wiper is strong, we support them; where DP is strong, we support them; where DCP is strong, they support us,” he explained, highlighting a flexible approach to coalition politics.

The former Deputy President further expressed confidence in the United Opposition’s chances in the capital, citing historical voting patterns as a basis for optimism.

“I have looked at past performances, and I'm sure Nairobi is for the United Opposition 100%,” he stated, pointing to a record of competitive electoral outcomes for opposition parties in previous contests.

Gachagua’s remarks appear aimed at countering perceptions of tribal favoritism while reinforcing opposition unity ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

The DCP leader’s clarification comes amid heightened media scrutiny of political narratives in Nairobi, where parties are preparing for competitive campaigns across county and national levels.
