Intelligence-Led Raid in Bungoma South Leads to Major Drug and Cigarette Seizure

A coordinated police operation in Bungoma South has led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a substantial quantity of cannabis and uncustomed cigarettes, following intelligence shared by members of the public. 


Authorities say the incident marks another step in ongoing efforts to choke off drug distribution channels in Western Kenya.


According to a statement issued by the National Police Service, officers from Bungoma Police Station conducted the raid on a local property after receiving actionable information from residents. 


The operation was overseen by the Sub-County Police Commander and formed part of a broader campaign targeting narcotics and illicit goods across the region.


Police documented the recovery of approximately 30 rolls of cannabis, an additional unrolled bundle of cannabis sativa weighing around 12 kilograms, and 39,000 sticks of uncustomed cigarettes. 


All seized items are being processed for presentation in court. 


The two suspects arrested during the raid remain in custody as investigators work to determine the origin of the contraband and identify any associates or suppliers linked to the haul.


Drug and contraband crackdowns have become more frequent in Western Kenya, where authorities have been attempting to curb substance abuse and the movement of illegal goods along cross-county transit routes. 


Similar operations in recent years have been influenced by national security directives aimed at strengthening community safety and reducing the influence of local trafficking networks.
