Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed a significant lead in current political opinion polls, telling an audience at a lawyers’ night gala that the margin places him ahead of his main competitors.
Speaking during the Nairobi event, Kalonzo said the numbers show he is “so much ahead,” adding that the ongoing national debate on whether the next election might require a 50+1 runoff threshold “will not arise.”
Kalonzo used the platform to underscore what he described as growing support for his presidential bid across various regions, with particular emphasis on Luo Nyanza.
He said recent engagements in the region indicate that local communities are receptive to his political message.
According to Kalonzo, his increased presence in Luo-dominated counties is part of a deliberate outreach strategy aimed at strengthening coalition politics ahead of the 2027 election.
“That is why you see me going there and reminding them,” he said, adding that his conversations with voters show a constituency willing to listen.
He praised Luo Nyanza as a community that “believes in justice,” linking those values to his campaign narrative on governance reforms and accountability.
“If there is a community that believes in justice, it is Luo Nyanza; I even reminded them today,” he said during his address.
Kalonzo did not provide details of the opinion polls he referenced, but his remarks come at a time when several coalitions are working to position themselves early for the next election cycle.
Political negotiations within the opposition, particularly concerning running mate alignments and regional endorsements, remain active behind the scenes.
Kalonzo’s recent visits to Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, and Migori have sparked renewed attention on whether the region may shift alliances as political realignments take shape.
