Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has publicly explained the circumstances that led him to gift a three-bedroom house to a longtime aide, framing the move as the fulfilment of a personal commitment made over a decade ago.

The MP shared the account on his official social media platforms, where it quickly drew public attention.

According to Sudi, his relationship with Hermstone Makam began in 2011 in Nairobi, long before his election to Parliament.

In his post, the legislator said Makam was then working at a construction site along Riara Road and approached him seeking an opportunity to wash his car.

Sudi stated that he agreed and later engaged him for regular work after observing what he described as honesty and discipline.

Sudi explained that after relocating to Eldoret, Makam moved with him to Kapseret, where the MP was settling before entering elective politics.

He said Makam was tasked with maintaining his compound at a time when the area was undeveloped and lacked basic infrastructure such as electricity.

In the social media post, Sudi noted that Makam continued to work at the residence as construction progressed, handling duties such as landscaping and general upkeep.

He described the period as one that required patience, given the remoteness of the area and the slow pace of development.

The Kapseret MP said it was during this early period that he promised Makam he would one day help him acquire his own home.

He added that the aide remained in his service for 14 years, during which time he continued to manage the homestead and contribute to its transformation.

Sudi stated that the decision to hand over the house was not prompted by any recent request.

“Lately, I remembered our promise. He didn’t remind me,” he wrote, adding that the house was meant to recognise consistency and trust built over the years.

The MP, who is a close ally of President William Ruto and represents Kapseret under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), did not indicate the value or location of the house beyond describing it as a three-bedroom unit.

All details of the account were shared directly by Sudi through his social media statements, which remain the sole source of information regarding the gesture and its background.
