Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen spent Christmas Day with security officers deployed in Baringo County, praising their role in maintaining peace as many marked the holiday away from their families.

Murkomen visited the Kenya Defence Forces’ Todo Camp in Kolowa Sub-County, where he met officers serving under the multi-agency Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU).

The operation brings together personnel from the KDF, National Police Service, and other security agencies to address insecurity in the Kerio Valley region.

In a statement shared on social media, the Interior CS acknowledged the personal sacrifices made by security officers during the festive season.

He noted that many officers remained on duty to ensure the country stayed safe, even as families across Kenya celebrated Christmas.

Murkomen said the OMU team had made notable progress in containing banditry and restoring calm in parts of the Kerio Valley, a region that has in recent years experienced repeated attacks linked to cattle rustling and armed criminal groups.

According to the government, sustained security operations have helped reopen roads, allow the return of normal economic activity, and improve public confidence.

During the visit, Murkomen conveyed appreciation on behalf of the government, saluting both the officers and their families for what he described as a shared sacrifice in service to the nation.

He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among security agencies to maintain the gains already achieved.

The Interior CS was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, and other senior government officials.

The visit formed part of the government’s broader efforts to boost morale among security personnel deployed in high-risk areas during the festive period.
