Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu Among Regions Set for Weekend Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather alert, warning residents in several regions to expect rain and showers over the weekend.

According to the weekly forecast, major towns including Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, and Meru are likely to experience intermittent rainfall from Friday, December 26, through Monday, December 29. 

Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in Marsabit County.

Residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi can anticipate cloudy mornings with light rain and sunny intervals, followed by afternoon and nighttime showers. Temperatures will range between a maximum of 29°C and a minimum of 5°C.

Similarly, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, along with inland Tana River, are forecast to experience comparable conditions, with highs of 32°C and lows of 13°C. Coastal counties including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, as well as coastal Tana River, are expected to record highs of 34°C and lows of 23°C.

Other counties likely to see rain both day and night include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, with temperatures ranging from 32°C to 7°C.

Meanwhile, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience daylong sunny intervals, with highs of 37°C and lows of 16°C. Turkana and Samburu counties are forecast sunny days and partly cloudy nights, also with highs of 37°C and lows of 16°C.

Motorists and residents are advised to exercise caution during the rainy spells, as heavy showers may lead to localized flooding and slippery roads.
