The government has intensified security measures in Narok County after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen declared parts of Trans Mara West and Trans Mara South “security-disturbed” for 30 days.

The move comes amid ongoing local disputes that have disrupted daily life in the affected communities.

Under the directive, a dawn-to-dusk curfew is now in place, and security forces have been significantly strengthened across the two regions.

CS Murkomen said the measures will allow authorities to both enforce law and order and implement targeted peace-building interventions.

“Calm is gradually returning, even as we continue engaging local leaders and security stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict,” Murkomen stated on X.

He emphasized the government’s goal of restoring harmony among communities that have historically coexisted peacefully.

The decision follows reports of sporadic clashes in Trans Mara West and South, which have largely been linked to disputes over land and livestock.

These confrontations have affected livelihoods and prompted temporary relocations for some residents.

Security officials say the current interventions are aimed at curbing further escalation while promoting long-term stability.

Local leaders have welcomed the government’s actions, noting that the combination of security enforcement and mediation efforts is critical to achieving sustainable peace.

Residents report seeing increased patrols, checkpoints, and restricted movement since the curfew took effect, with essential activities prioritized.

CS Murkomen also indicated that the government will continue rolling out community engagement programs, including mediation and dialogue sessions, to resolve tensions and reinforce coexistence.

Authorities have urged residents to comply with the curfew, cooperate with security personnel, and report any suspicious activity to maintain order.

The 30-day declaration shows the government’s proactive approach in responding to localized security threats while balancing law enforcement with efforts to address the underlying causes of community conflict in Narok County.
