The Kenyan National Assembly is mourning the death of Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday morning.
Speaker Moses Wetangula confirmed the news, highlighting Hamisi’s contributions to parliamentary committees and his commitment to public service.
Hamisi served on the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities, where he was known for his active participation in legislative oversight and policy discussions.
His work in both public and private sectors before joining Parliament reflected a long-standing dedication to national development.
In a statement, Speaker Wetangula described Hamisi as a colleague who demonstrated humility, professionalism, and steadfast service to Kenya.
“On behalf of the National Assembly and the parliamentary fraternity, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and constituents,” he said.
The National Assembly has appointed a team, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Hon. Owen Baya Yaa, CBS, MP, to coordinate with Hamisi’s family and ensure arrangements for a dignified farewell.
The leadership emphasized that the parliamentary family will support the family during this period of loss.
Hamisi’s tenure in Parliament coincided with key legislative efforts to strengthen national cohesion and promote equal opportunities across communities.
His work in the Sports & Culture Committee also contributed to initiatives aimed at nurturing talent and promoting sports development at grassroots levels, an area of growing national interest ahead of Kenya’s preparations for regional competitions.
Fellow lawmakers have begun paying tribute to Hamisi, noting his reputation for diligence and collaboration across party lines.
His passing leaves a gap in committees addressing cultural promotion, sports development, and social equality, areas where he had been actively involved.
