President William Ruto on Sunday attended the Genowa Governor’s Cup finals at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County, using the platform to stress his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and equal opportunities for all regions.

Speaking to attendees and later on social media, Ruto emphasized that Kenya’s transformation agenda aims to leave no county behind, ending practices of discrimination based on tribe or political affiliation.

The football event featured a dramatic showdown, with Lala FC defeating Minyere FC in a tense penalty shootout.

In the women’s category, Nyasore FC emerged victorious against defending champions Victoria Queens.

Ruto congratulated the teams for their achievements, highlighting the abundant talent on display among young Kenyans.

“The talent we have witnessed today demonstrates why we are investing heavily in sports infrastructure. Our young people deserve quality facilities where they can nurture their talents,” the President said in his social media post.

His remarks underline ongoing efforts by the national government to strengthen grassroots sports, an area closely linked to youth empowerment and community development initiatives.

Homa Bay County has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for local sports, with events like the Genowa Governor’s Cup providing both male and female athletes with competitive opportunities and exposure.

The tournament also promotes community engagement, with local leaders and residents coming together to support emerging talent.

Ruto’s attendance and remarks form part of a broader strategy to reinforce national unity while addressing historical regional disparities.

By tying sports development to the wider national transformation agenda, the President signals the administration’s focus on linking infrastructure investment, youth programs, and economic empowerment across all counties.

The government’s continued investment in stadiums, training facilities, and youth programs is expected to create pathways for local athletes to progress to higher levels of competition while fostering social cohesion.

Events like the Genowa Governor’s Cup are likely to remain key platforms for showcasing talent and encouraging participation in sports nationwide.
