The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals linked to the disturbances at Kariobangi North PCEA Church on Sunday, November 30.
The incident occurred during a church service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, prompting the deployment of tear gas by police to disperse the crowd.
The seven suspects, all apprehended within the Lucky Summer area, are now in police custody and are expected to appear in court. Their identities, as released by the NPS, are Charles Otieno Opiyo, Wilson Okoth alias M.C. Otieno, Michael Mutunga Kavulunze, Brian Omondi Odhiambo alias "Bryo," Reggy Opiyo Otwole, Elisha Otieno Ochieng, and Gordon Odhiambo Onyango.
Authorities have indicated that further arrests may follow as investigations progress, including analysis of photographic and acoustic evidence.
The National Police Service emphasized its commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining public safety.
“We remain steadfast in ensuring all criminal acts are dealt with firmly, while upholding the security of Kenyans and residents,” said Muchiri Nyaga, Director of Corporate Communication for the NPS.
Sunday’s disruption at Kariobangi North highlights ongoing concerns over security during high-profile public events in Nairobi, particularly those involving senior political figures.
Kenya has previously witnessed similar incidents where political gatherings intersect with religious services, requiring heightened police vigilance to prevent escalation.
Investigations are continuing, with police reviewing evidence collected from the scene. Authorities have stressed the need for public cooperation to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice under the law.
