Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has been ranked the second-best performing governor in Kenya in the 2025 Mizani Africa Performance Index, an annual assessment of county leadership and service delivery.

The announcement, released on Monday, evaluated all 47 governors on governance, financial management, policy implementation, and the delivery of devolved services.

In response to the ranking, Governor Ndeti expressed her gratitude to the residents of Machakos County.

“I’m deeply grateful for being ranked position two out of 47 by Mizani Africa. To the great people of Machakos County, this recognition is yours. I humbly dedicate it to you for your unwavering support, trust, and confidence in my journey of service,” she stated.

The Mizani Africa Performance Index 2025 highlights governors who demonstrate effective strategic leadership, ensure accountability, and oversee key county functions such as health services, infrastructure development, water and sanitation, agriculture, and early childhood education.

The assessment also considers citizen perceptions of governors’ ability to coordinate with national government agencies and respond to socio-economic challenges.

Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga County was ranked first, followed by Ndeti in second place.

The rest of the top ten included Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Lati Lelelit, George Natembeya, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, Joseph Ole Lenku, Gideon Mung’aro, and Mohamed Khalid.

Governor Ndeti’s office said the recognition reflects the county government’s ongoing commitment to efficient service delivery and fiscal discipline.

Since taking office, her administration has implemented projects aimed at improving infrastructure, expanding healthcare access, and promoting local economic development.
