The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, continued his security assessment tour in Marsabit County with a visit to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Camp at Gas in North Horr Subcounty on Friday, January 2, 2026.
This marks the second day of his visit to the region, which began on New Year’s Day.
The Gas camp is located near the Ethiopia-Kenya border and plays a key role in fighting crime, particularly cattle rustling, drug trafficking, and human smuggling.
Officials say the camp is crucial in ensuring safety in the northern region, which faces rising security threats.
During the visit, Amin assessed the camp’s operational readiness and checked on the alertness of officers stationed there.
“This ongoing visit highlights the National Police Service's commitment to strengthening security, building community-police partnerships, and ensuring safety and stability during this festive season,” he said.
Amin was accompanied by senior DCI officials, including Ibrahim Jillo, Director of the National Central Bureau, Adan Guyo, Officer Commanding the Capital Markets Fraud Investigations Unit, and Samuel Kiplong, Subcounty Police Commander for North Horr, among others.
In addition to inspecting the camp, Amin engaged with the local community at Galasa Jamia Mosque in Gas, where he joined residents in prayers and held a discussion on security matters.
He urged the community to cooperate closely with police officers, stressing that strong teamwork between residents and security agencies is vital for lasting peace.
The DCI’s visit is part of a broader tour of far-flung areas in northern Kenya to boost the morale of police officers and ensure that security operations are effective.
All police officers who were on leave during the festive season were recalled to strengthen operations, particularly in regions affected by crime, terrorism, and cross-border smuggling.
Upon arrival at Gas, Amin was welcomed by John Kiprop, Officer Commanding ASTU M-Company, who briefed him on ongoing operations. The visit is expected to continue as Amin moves across other key police installations in Marsabit County to ensure preparedness and enhance community safety.
