Drama was witnessed on Saturday during a burial ceremony in Murang’a County after politicians clashed over the future of President William Ruto.
The situation turned tense when Senator Methu strongly faulted a politician from Lamu for declaring President Ruto a two-term president while addressing mourners.
Speaking shortly after the incident, Senator Methu warned leaders against using funerals to push political messages.
He said such events should be treated with respect and not turned into campaign platforms.
According to Methu, making political statements in front of grieving families is wrong and can easily provoke anger among mourners.
In a statement later shared with the media, Senator Methu insisted that President William Ruto will only serve one term.
He told politicians to be very careful when addressing mourners, saying funerals are not places to declare political positions or celebrate power. He added that leaders should listen to the mood of the people before speaking.
However, before Senator Methu took the microphone, Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni had already caused an uproar. Muthoni was loudly heckled after openly declaring that President William Ruto is a two-term president.
Her remarks did not sit well with the crowd. She went further to claim that the people of the Central region were already enjoying the benefits of development under Ruto’s leadership.
“The people of Central have already reached Singapore in terms of development,” Muthoni said, a comment that sparked anger and loud shouts from the mourners.
In another statement during the same event, Muthoni defended President Ruto’s development record. She said the president had taken more development projects to Central Kenya than any other region.
According to her, the government had improved infrastructure significantly.
“All roads in Central are tarmac,” she said, insisting that the current administration had delivered real progress to the region.
Muthoni also made it clear that she is not in the opposition. She stated that she is firmly in government and fully supports President William Ruto. However, her words only fueled more anger among the mourners, who continued to shout her down.
Due to the hostile reaction, Muthoni was forced to cut short her speech and leave the podium.
