“Marriage Is Not for Me”: Karen Nyamu Explains Why She Can Never Be Someone’s Wife

Controversial Kenyan lawyer and politician Karen Nyamu has openly spoken about her personal life, explaining why marriage is something she does not see herself getting into.

According to the outspoken UDA legislator, becoming someone’s wife has never appealed to her. She said marriage has never featured in her life plans because it is not something she admires or desires.

Karen shared these views through her Instagram stories while reacting to sentiments expressed by popular digital creator Lydia Wanjiru, who also declared that marriage is not for her.

In her post, Lydia said she is uncomfortable with the idea of living with a husband every day of the week. She explained that while she values companionship, she prefers a relationship where both partners maintain separate homes.

Reacting to Lydia’s views, Karen Nyamu showed full support and revealed that she shares the same mindset. The nominated senator reposted Lydia’s video and added that she too cannot imagine living with a man seven days a week.

Karen clarified that while she enjoys being in a loving relationship, marriage — especially one that requires constant cohabitation — is not something she wants.

She also criticized society for pressuring people to get married without considering their personal choices or happiness.

“I really understand this girl, or maybe she understands me. Society should stop deciding such personal matters for people. I enjoy being in love, but living together every single day is where I draw the line,” Karen wrote.

Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some applauding her honesty while others debated traditional views on marriage and relationships.
