Speaking during an interview with Tales Extra, a Kenyan lady identified as Edith Wanjiru shared her heartbreaking story, revealing how her life changed after losing both her parents.
Edith revealed that her parents passed away when she was only nine years old. After their death, she was rejected by her relatives because she is intersex. With nowhere to go, she was taken to a children’s home in hopes of finding safety and care.
However, her situation became even more difficult. The owner of the children’s home later told her that she could no longer stay there because of her nature.
Edith was forced to leave, and outside, nobody accepted her. Feeling alone and rejected by everyone, she made the heartbreaking decision to start living in a cemetery.
Despite the sadness of her situation, Edith says she now feels safe and finds peace in the cemetery. She described it as her new home, where she can rest and avoid the judgment and rejection she faced in the outside world.
Edith’s story sheds light on the struggles faced by intersex individuals in Kenya, especially those who lose family support.
