A tragic incident in Nyamira County has left a family mourning the death of a 39-year-old businessman after an alleged assault involving a government administrator and Nyumba Kumi volunteers. The father of two from Enchoro Village sustained critical injuries while walking home with his wife and children.
According to the family, the confrontation started when the assistant chief and local security volunteers accused the man of transporting illegal brew.
The altercation quickly became violent: the husband was struck on the leg, causing him to fall, and was then reportedly beaten by several Nyumba Kumi youths.
The widow claimed that the administrator also allegedly targeted her, forcibly removing her clothing in front of her children, while her son was allegedly attacked when he tried to intervene, with reports saying the boy’s head was slammed against a tree.
The assistant chief refuted these claims, providing a different narrative. He stated that the woman had pulled at him when he tried to seize the alcohol, removed her own clothes, and he then let her go, adding that the man had already escaped the scene.
The widow reported the attack to Kiambere Police Station, obtaining an OB number. A postmortem later confirmed that the businessman died from a skull fracture resulting from blunt trauma.
His body is held at Nyamira County Mortuary as the family demands justice, while community members are urging authorities to strengthen oversight of local administrators and neighborhood security groups.
