A tragic incident in Nairobi’s Dandora estate has left residents shaken after a 15-year-old girl, Charlene Nyangwes, was allegedly fatally beaten by her father, Nelson Omeno, following her visit to her estranged mother.
The teenager reportedly called her mother, Pamela Sande, pleading for help after the assault—a harrowing final call that has left the family grief-stricken.
According to reports, Omeno allegedly attacked Charlene for visiting her mother without his permission. After the brutal assault, he reportedly took the injured teenager to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital but fled the scene before police could intervene.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are actively pursuing him as investigations continue.
Charlene’s mother recounted the devastating phone call, describing how her daughter begged for assistance in her final moments. The traumatic experience has intensified the family’s sorrow and sparked calls for justice from friends, relatives, and the wider community.
Omeno’s current wife has claimed that the beating was not intentional, though authorities are expected to scrutinize this assertion closely as the case unfolds. The incident has reignited concerns about domestic violence and child protection in Kenya.
Community members have condemned the act, urging authorities to act swiftly and strengthen safeguards for vulnerable children.
As police intensify efforts to apprehend Omeno, Charlene’s death has prompted wider conversations on protecting children’s rights and addressing familial conflicts before they escalate into irreversible tragedies.
