Chaos in Evurore: DP Chief Agent Assaulted at Polling Station as By-Election Turns Violent

Tension gripped Evurore Ward on Thursday after violence erupted during the by-election, leaving a chief agent nursing injuries following an alleged attack by suspected goons.

The incident took place at Njarage Primary School polling station, disrupting the otherwise ongoing voting process and sparking fears of voter intimidation.

Chief Agent Attacked While on Duty

Kelvin Mwenda, the chief agent for the Democratic Party (DP) candidate Albert Kigoro, was reportedly assaulted while overseeing the voting exercise.

According to Mwenda, he was monitoring proceedings inside the polling station when a group of individuals confronted and attacked him.

The confrontation quickly escalated, creating panic among voters and party supporters who had turned out to participate in the electoral exercise.

Mwenda stated that the attack happened amid heightened political tension in the area, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and confusion at the station.

Candidate’s Vehicle Vandalized

In addition to the physical assault, Mwenda reported that a vehicle belonging to candidate Kigoro — which he had been using — was vandalized during the chaos.

He described the incident as an act of intimidation allegedly aimed at frustrating his legally mandated oversight role and discouraging voter turnout.

He emphasized that his presence at the polling station was purely to ensure transparency and compliance with electoral laws.

Matter Reported to Police

Mwenda has since reported the incident to Ishiara Police Station and called on security agencies to carry out thorough investigations and hold those responsible accountable.

The violence has reignited concerns about election security and the safety of party agents during by-elections, with residents urging authorities to ensure calm and protect the integrity of the vote.
