Bomet politician Eng. John Mosonik has officially commenced his duties as the Chancellor of Rongo University, following his appointment by President William Ruto on January 16, 2026, for a five-year term.
Dr. Mosonik was formally received at the university by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel Gudu, Council Chairperson Dr. Catherine Wangeci, and members of the University Council in a ceremony marking the beginning of his tenure.
Commitment to Service and Excellence
In his inaugural address, the former Principal Secretary for Infrastructure expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised the unity and dedication demonstrated by the university’s leadership.
He described Rongo University as an institution where dreams are nurtured and the nation’s future is shaped.
“I assume this responsibility with humility, gratitude, and a deep personal commitment to serve and support this shared vision. I pledge to uphold the values of integrity, service, and excellence that this office demands,” he said.
Dr. Mosonik also thanked President Ruto for entrusting him with the role, affirming his commitment to working closely with the University Council, management, staff, students, and other stakeholders to strengthen the institution’s impact and legacy.

Eng. Mosonik brings with him an impressive academic and professional portfolio. Most recently, he has served as a Non-Executive Director at Safaricom.
He holds:
A Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) – Strategic Leadership from Northcentral University (USA)
A PhD in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Moi University
Postgraduate qualifications in Digital
Transformation, Strategic Focus, Finance, and Business Administration
A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi
His blend of leadership experience, corporate governance exposure, and academic credentials is expected to enhance Rongo University’s strategic direction in the coming years.
