Grief and Chaos Mark Burial of Kisii Politician Don Bosco Gichana’s Father

A wave of grief and reverence swept through Marani playing grounds on Friday as mourners gathered to honor the life of Mzee John Dominic Gichana Oroni, father of prominent United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician Don Bosco Gichana.

Mzee Gichana was remembered as a pillar of strength, integrity, and a devoted patriarch. Speakers at the ceremony highlighted his years as an English teacher, during which he inspired countless young minds before retiring to a quieter life in Mwembe, Kisii town.

The solemn occasion, however, faced a brief disruption when an unruly individual caused panic among attendees. The man, reportedly known for past misconduct, had set up an unauthorized roadblock and demanded passersby chant a political slogan, “Wantam,” before allowing them through.

The incident sparked a commotion, with security personnel and mourners confronting the individual.

Angry youths clobbered him before police intervened and restored order, allowing the funeral proceedings to continue peacefully.

Despite the disruption, heartfelt tributes to Mzee Gichana continued. Family members described him as a man whose laughter, mentorship, and generosity left a lasting impact on his community.

Don Bosco delivered a moving eulogy, reflecting on the loss of not just a parent, but a mentor, supporter, and confidant.

Mzee Gichana’s legacy is remembered through his contributions to education, community service, and the values he instilled in those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
