A man who ran toward President William Ruto during a public address in Wajir County has broken his silence, clarifying that he had no harmful intentions and only wanted to discuss his political ambitions.
Man Says He Wanted to Discuss His MCA Aspirations
In a video circulating online, the unidentified man explained that he approached the President because he intends to contest for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in his area.
“Mimi nilitaka kuongea na Rais kwa sababu nasimama kiti ya MCA huko kwetu,” he said.
He further added that he moved closer to greet the President as he was concluding his speech:
“That was the time the president was summarising his speech, and I just wanted to greet him. I didn’t know that my actions would cause trouble. I am hopeful that I will see him,” he said.
The man revealed that he tripped and fell onto the carpet near the President before security officers intervened.
Incident Disrupts President Ruto’s Address
The dramatic moment occurred while President Ruto was addressing beneficiaries of the Nyota Fund in Wajir.
The man reportedly emerged from the crowd and rushed toward the stage, prompting an immediate response from the President’s security team, briefly interrupting the speech.
President Ruto Calls for Calm
Despite the tense moment, President Ruto instructed his security detail to handle the situation calmly:
“Eei, so sorry, leave him alone, let him relax there. He should sit down somewhere there, and I will see him later,” he said.
The remarks appeared to defuse the situation, signaling a measured approach to security management.
Public Reaction
The incident has sparked mixed reactions online. Some Kenyans have expressed concerns over security protocols at presidential events, while others praised the President for responding calmly and humanely.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the man’s identity or whether any charges will be pursued.
