ODM Faces Internal Rift as Kitengela Rally Outshines Tononoka Gathering

The political temperature in Kenya is rising as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) witnesses a stark contrast in turnout at its split rallies, signaling shifting internal dynamics.

At Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa, the official party rally led by Oburu Odinga appeared muted, with rows of empty white tents and a noticeably thin reception, as captured in video footage shared by Standard Digital. The historic venue, billed for large gatherings, failed to attract the expected crowds.

Meanwhile, in Kitengela, former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, recently removed from his position, mobilized his Linda Mwananchi team to the streets, drawing hundreds of supporters.

Flanked by influential figures such as Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and James Orengo, Sifuna’s rally was vibrant and well-attended, reflecting a grassroots movement with strong support.

Babu Owino highlighted the emerging disconnect between official titleholders and the leaders with popular backing, emphasizing that while one faction holds formal authority, Sifuna’s team commands the loyalty of the party’s members.

Observers note that this development marks a critical turning point for ODM, suggesting that younger leaders are asserting influence independent of formal positions.

The contrast between Kitengela’s packed streets and Mombasa’s vacant seats underscores a shift in party power, with the ground already tilting in favor of Sifuna-led initiatives.
