Edwin Sifuna, Nairobi Senator and former ODM Secretary-General, has publicly declared that he will campaign for William Ruto to leave office in the 2027 General Election, citing widespread frustration among ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking at the Linda Mwananchi rally held at Amalemba Grounds in Kakamega, Sifuna addressed thousands of supporters, explaining that his stance is motivated by the voices of citizens struggling with high cost of living, heavy taxation, and challenging economic conditions, which he attributes to failed leadership.
“The people who elected me as senator have sent me to defend their interests and demand accountability. This is not a personal mission; it is guided by the frustrations of low-income earners,” Sifuna said.
The rally, organised by a faction of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders, also featured Babu Owino and James Orengo, who collectively expressed opposition to any arrangement that would see ODM support Ruto’s re-election bid.
Supporters at Amalemba Grounds cheered Sifuna’s remarks, waving party flags and filling the venue as speeches highlighted the need for unity and better governance.
The senator emphasized that 2027 will be a pivotal moment for Kenya, urging citizens to remain engaged in the struggle for accountability and development.
Political analysts note that the rally underscores growing divisions within ODM, which could influence party strategy and alliances as the 2027 elections approach.
