Eugene Wamalwa Opens Door for Edwin Sifuna to Join DAP-K Amid ODM Political Uncertainty

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has revealed plans to accommodate Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna within the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) should he face political challenges within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Wamalwa said that DAP-K Secretary General Eseli Simiyu has agreed to step aside to allow Sifuna to take over the position if he is pushed out of ODM. He described the move as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former Cabinet Secretary also indicated that Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi could also join DAP-K under similar circumstances, noting that the party is ready to provide a political platform for leaders seeking continuity in their leadership roles.

Push to Strengthen Mulembe Political Influence
Wamalwa emphasized that the strategy is aimed at strengthening the political voice of the Mulembe region in national politics.

He argued that the region cannot afford to wait until 2032 to secure higher representation, making 2027 a critical electoral moment.

According to him, attracting leaders from ODM into DAP-K is part of a long-term plan to consolidate regional influence and ensure stronger participation in national decision-making.

Broader Political Realignments Ahead of 2027
The remarks come amid increasing political realignments as parties position themselves ahead of the next general election.

Analysts note that emerging alliances and internal party tensions could significantly reshape Kenya’s political landscape.

While no official defections have been announced, the signals from DAP-K leadership suggest active behind-the-scenes negotiations and preparations for possible political shifts.

Outlook

As the 2027 elections approach, political movements within ODM and smaller allied parties continue to intensify, with leaders exploring new alignments to secure strategic advantage in the next political cycle.
