Gachagua’s DCP Party Leads in Ruto’s Stronghold as New Gathunguri Poll Sparks Debate

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reason to smile after new details showed that his Democratic Change Party (DCP) is currently the most popular political party in Gathunguri Constituency — a region widely viewed as President William Ruto’s political stronghold.

Gathunguri Constituency, which is represented by UDA MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, is considered a key base for President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Wamuchomba is known to be a close ally of the Head of State.

However, the latest figures indicate that Gachagua’s DCP party is leading in popularity within the constituency with 28.4% support, slightly ahead of President Ruto’s UDA party, which comes second at 26.5%.

The Jubilee Party, associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, ranks third with 11.8%, while the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), linked to Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, trails with 2.9% as political temperatures slowly begin rising ahead of the August 2027 General Elections.

Despite the party rankings, MP Gathoni Wamuchomba of UDA reportedly remains the most preferred candidate for the parliamentary seat in Gathunguri Constituency heading into the 2027 polls.

The new political dynamics are expected to reshape conversations within the Mt. Kenya region as leaders position themselves ahead of the much-anticipated 2027 elections.
