Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has called out the media over what he described as biased and unbalanced reporting on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging journalists to ensure fairness and accuracy in their coverage.
Speaking during a press briefing at Chungwa House, Junet expressed concern that repeated negative reporting is shaping public perception of the party unfairly, despite its long history and influence in Kenyan politics.
He noted that ODM, which has existed for over 20 years, deserves more balanced treatment from the press.
The MP argued that the media often exaggerates minor disagreements within the party, presenting them as signs of a major internal crisis.
He pointed out that with over 100 Members of Parliament, focusing on a few dissenting voices gives a misleading picture of the party’s overall stability.
His remarks come amid growing attention on differing views within ODM, with factions associated with Oburu Oginga and Edwin Sifuna raising speculation about possible internal divisions.
However, Junet dismissed claims of wrangles, insisting that differing opinions are normal in any democratic party.
He emphasized that ODM remains one of the country’s largest political parties, with strong grassroots support and significant parliamentary representation.
According to him, media coverage should reflect this broader reality instead of focusing mainly on conflict.
Junet’s comments signal an effort by ODM to reshape its public image and push back against narratives suggesting instability, even as internal debates continue to emerge.
