Passaris Slams Sifuna Over ‘Disrespect’ to Oburu Amid Deepening ODM Wrangles

Esther Passaris has sharply criticised Edwin Sifuna, questioning his loyalty to the legacy of Raila Odinga while accusing him of showing disrespect toward Oburu Oginga.

In a statement shared on social media, the Nairobi Woman Representative expressed disappointment over Sifuna’s conduct, suggesting that his actions do not reflect the values associated with the late ODM leader.

“It is disappointing to witness one of Baba’s sons displaying disrespect toward Baba’s brother and our Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga,” Passaris stated.

She further emphasized that those who closely followed Raila Odinga understood the importance he placed on respect and loyalty, especially toward senior figures within the party.

According to her, Oburu Oginga was not only Raila’s brother but also a trusted confidant and advisor.

Passaris went on to question Sifuna’s position within the party, arguing that if he truly aligned with Raila’s ideals, he would better understand his role and conduct within ODM.

The remarks come at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement is facing internal divisions following Raila Odinga’s death in October 2025. After his passing, Oburu Oginga was endorsed as the party leader in a bid to unify members under the “Mbele Pamoja” slogan.

However, tensions escalated earlier this year when the party’s National Executive Committee moved to remove Sifuna as Secretary General, citing allegations of defying party protocols and opposing key decisions, including cooperation with William Ruto’s administration.

Sifuna challenged the decision in court and secured temporary orders blocking his removal, further intensifying the standoff.

The divisions became more visible on March 27, 2026, when rival meetings were held—one led by Oburu Oginga and another by Sifuna alongside allies linked to the Linda Mwananchi faction at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.

With leaders openly clashing and factions taking shape, the latest remarks by Passaris highlight the growing rift within ODM, raising questions about the party’s unity as the country gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 General Election.
